The College of Hospitality, Retail, and Sport Management Teacher of the Year Committee is pleased that you have decided to nominate an outstanding teacher for the Harry E. and Carmen S. Varney Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award. The award is named for a former HRSM Dean and his wife Carmen, who very generously started the award to recognize and honor teaching excellence, a value that has long been associated with the College of HRSM. The winner receives a framed certificate and a cash stipend provided by the Harry E. and Carmen S. Varney Endowment Fund. The deadline to nominate is Feb 19, 2010 at 5 p.m.
All full time College faculty members are eligible for this award. As you make your nomination, please note that effective teaching should be closely linked to, and inseparable from, the pursuit of knowledge in one's field through professional and scholarly development and service. It is manifested through:
· outstanding classroom performance that facilitates student learning.
· out-of-class activities that are directly related to the enhancement of student learning.
· academic and professional integrity.
The award will be presented at a ceremony in April, 2010 and all faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the committee members listed below or the Associate Dean, Dr. Sheryl Kline.
